melissa, you have some lovely typography in your swipe, then didn't use anything like it on your layouts. pls go back, figure those fonts, try them. thinking the slab serif and the slim sans serif displays.
also, remember to drop text type from a hang line and don't use rules to help you balance the page. your typography should do that. if you want to use rules, make them work for you, ie direct the readers eyes to a particular text block or signal a change in editorial content, from story to sidebar material for instance.
